Young Academic’s first Warehouse Project of what is set to be a remarkable season was one to remember, as we witnessed the return of one of the event’s top performers. Yousef brought his Circus Club back to Manchester and with it, some of the finest names in contemporary house.

Anyone who saw Yousef close proceedings at WHP back in 2012 will know how much this DJ is revered by the Manchester scene and last Friday’s performance did not disappoint. This year’s crew comprised of Kerri Chandler, Joris Voorn, Yousef himself, Hot Since 82 and a plethora of other sterling acts and the crowd appreciated every last second.

The return to Store Street has come under the spotlight this year, with revellers and musicians alike voicing their delight at the fact that Warehouse Project is once more based at what is thought by many to be its spiritual home. It seemed fitting then that our first taste of the 2014 campaign was to see at least one of the DJ’s that has helped to propel Warehouse Project to the dizzy heights it now enjoys.

The vibe was phenomenal, smiles all around as the eager crowd bopped around almost in disbelief that they were back at one of the most iconic Mancunian stomping grounds. Not much has changed since the old days and if anything, the music has again moved to a new level. Although, this didn’t come as much of a surprise given the fact that the night was curated by one of house music’s most coveted DJ, producer and promoter.

With many more incredible Warehouse nights to come, this was a great way for us to open our WHP14 account and left a fantastic taste in one’s mouth. The appetites from more are now well and truly whetted.

The above acts were complemented fantastically by Route94, Scott Lewis, Shadow Child, Acid Mondays and Lewis Boardman and there did not seem to be a point in the night when anything lulled. It truly was deep house at its best, back where it should be.

Season To Remember

It’s a bit early for any samples of the evening, although were sure it won’t be long until they surface. So, we will leave you with a sweet snippet from Yousef himself when he closed Warehouse Project in 2012. If you were at last Friday’s event you will know what we mean and if you are yet to make your 2014 debut, there are great times ahead! See you all there….
